Jabba's Throne Room

A while back, the guys over on the Star Wars In Character Podcast: https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/starwarsincharacter?fref=ts quite rightly slagged off Joh Yowza. And very entertaining it was too, far more so than the subject they were tearing into. If you don't recognise the name, sadly i'm afraid you'll know the face - he's the awful, awful new singer in Jabba's band, stuck in there for the Special Edition Of "Jedi". If you've never listened to SWIC, i heartily recommend that you do - four blokes who oh so obviously love Star Wars, dissecting an obscure character each time, along with discussions on the persons back story and behind the scenes info, very funny, very profane, and totally brilliant. Its my Number One choice of Podcasts and i do urge you to give them a try. Anyway, the talk on Yowza jogged my memory that, up in the attic, i had this Airfix model kit of Jabba's Throne Room that i'd bought back in '83, started, but then gave up on and consigned to a box up there. And Yowza was in it. So, went up, got it down, and opened it up. And this is what was in there:
As you can see, i had partially started it before giving up (more on why in a minute) and, now it was down, plus me thinking of what i could do next, i thought that rather than bung it back on up in the attic, i'd have a go at finishing what i started 30 Years (!) ago. Going from biggest to smallest, the floor is a one-piece vac-form affair and pretty good, as its got the grills to the Rancor pit, the hatch where Oola and Luke fall down and a pretty nice sculpted sandy floor. Think all i'll be doing here is drilling out the grills to try and convey they actually lead somewhere. The walls to the room are IP and pretty bare apart from some decoration around the arch. I'll be making the bare surfaces much more rock-like. Of the figures, you can see i'd started a few and i'm pretty dismayed by my younger self's choices there colour-wise though, in my defense, back then all i had to go on were the Jedi Storybook and collectors magazine (though that doesn't explain why Jabba's done like an avocado). I'll be coming to each character in turn, although i'm pretty sure i won't be using the likes of Luke, Han, Boba Fett and C3PO as they are far, far too lanky (you'll see what i mean soon enough) And i definetly won't be using R2 as its just bizarre (ditto). The minor characters fair much better though:
And i'll be focussing on them i think. I've got somewhere Han in Carbonite and its pretty good too, so may have a scene where Jabba is enlisting his cronies as to where would be the best place in the room to hang his new decoration. One more thing before i go - as i say, my colour choices seem odd now and i've got to rectify them. Worse cases being "Hoover" on the far left and "Baragwin" on the far right, who actually should be:

I've built up much of this model myself. I'll be interested in seeing how it develops.

I'm no great shakes as a painter, and these figures aren't too forgiving, but you can take a look at some of what I painted.

Just popped over and had a look at your work - and well done you for sticking with it 8)
Some of them are SO awful that i can't muster any will at all to put paint to them.

It was a friend's kit. He was building it while in a period of unemployment, and I wanted to help him out.
