Seth the Blitzspear - underside

Looking at one of the rare shots of the underneath of the Blitzspear, it seems the rear section has a bunch of recessed panels. That was easy to do - just stick on a bunch of Plasticard panels with slots cut into them.
With that done though, i've got to address that knife thing at the front.
Two questions: 1) What do i make it out of? 2) Do i actually bother making one? In some shots its not there at all and i'm thinking, as in all shots of it landed, its just sat there with no sign of landing gear, that it actually folds up into the "beak" area when not in use.
Hmmm...

Seth the Blitzspear

Getting ready for the puzzle of just what the heck do i use for the top gun thingy, i've been putting on panel details.
As well as the slabs up top, i've also added the curved panels on the flanks, something Kevin O'Neil was consistant about depecting, unlike some other details (which i'm sure i'll be addressing soon).
He also often has a thin line running horizontal to the upper part of the curved panel. That changes from story to story and, just to break things up from all this flatness, i've used tiny cable ties, cut down.

Biog Living Spaceship

Very early days, as i really should finish other projects so please don't expect and update soon, but i've started on the Living Spaceship from the revamped Dan Dare in Prog 1 of 2000AD.
I'm doing it to match the bust and Living Axe that i've already made and i fancy going the bio-organic route again.
So where am i?
Basic shape of the body, mushroom thingy, engine tubes and a few tendrils crudely blocked out using crude air-drying clay.
Next step, when i get round to it - refine the shapes more by taking away in some places and building up in others.

Seth the Blitzspear - underneath

Like the back half of the ship, the underside doesn't get shown much. When it does, it looks quite busy, with detail similar to that around the "eyes" (darn you Kevin O'Neil and your finetip pens).

As, like the rear, i'm thinking it won't be seen too much once its on its stand, i've not gone the very fine route here, preferring to just put on things that aren't too big as to mess up the profile, and look suitably functional.
Speaking of it being on a stand, just where its centre of gravity is is causing some concern. Of course that dictates just where i'll be drilling a hole for the rod of the stand (i want it flying and not landed, as i'd then have to figure just how it DOES land and not crush the knife thing slung underneath) and, at the moment, its just behind the "mouth" grill, which is fine.
But, when i've added the upper gun affair and the lower blade thingy, i've a horrible feeling that's going to move.

Seth the Blitzspear - rear end

Despite studying all three Nemesis collections (oh, what a hardship), i can't find any artist, anywhere, who drew the rear end of the Blitspear.
So i've had to make something up, and i'm leaving it with this as this part of the ship won't exactly be studied a lot i'm guessing, and it does tie in with the rather featureless opposite end of this section.

Seth the Blitzspear - more work on the eye area

With the eyes blended in, i've added those odd sticking out prongs, and i've been adding the tiniest parts from my bits box, mainly 1/44th scale ship parts and the smallest one's from Tamiya military kits, over the top of the grid areas to make them a bit more 3D.
Oh, and i've added the top nose prong. I've not added the lower one as i won't be able to put it down once on - need to work out a stand arrangement before i do that.

Seth the Blitzspear - more on the eyes

Okay, that's things just about blended in the eye area. Next, the two odd prongs that stick out sideways from just under the eyes.

The last of the V8's vs Spinner

Was having a sort out and dust of my display cabinet when i realised that my V8 Interceptor from "Mad Max" and Spinner from "Blade Runner" are both 1/24th scale.
So thought i'd put them together to see how they look compare and, boy, doesn't the Spinner dominate.
Can't decide which is my favourite of the two. But veering towards the last of the V8's.

Seth the Blitzspear - eyes

So i knew i wanted the "eyes" to be bigger than the bomb halves that were already attached.
I used Magic Sculp to make bigger one's, plus "eyelids" around them rather than mechanical detail, as i want to play up the fact that Seth is alive and an organic craft.
Plus, in the last ever Nemesis, you do see his eyes wince with pain inflicted by Torquemada.
I've also added his "horns" and canopy and am in the process of smoothing thing together.

Seth the Blitzspear - starting the details

Pic 1: So, i was kind of resigned to using the scored Plasticard to detail the "eye" area.
Pic 2: But then, when looking for tiny bits in my bits box to put over them in places, i stumbled across this plastic mesh, which i think was for a filter or somesuch that i used on another project.
Pic 3: Its got much more of a tiny grid pattern than i could come up with, so cut an over-sized piece and glued it in place with thin Superglue.
Pic 4: Then it was a simple matter of just trimming it to size. Quite pleased with how it went, so i'll carry on. Oh, and the green sticky gem i've just stuck there for the momement to see if it'll work as the rounded detail that's in that area. Think its a tad too rounded.
